The project team working on a proposal to have Sault Ste. Marie considered as a potential site to host a ferrochrome processing facility (FPF) is seeking letters of support from area businesses and organizations. The letters will be included in the proposal package that’s being sent to Noront Resources. Letters can be emailed to Please send by Friday, January 19. Questions and feedback can also be sent to this email address.

Noront Resources is planning to build an FPF in Northern Ontario. Sault Ste. Marie is shortlisted as one of four potential locations. This initiative is currently in the economic development phase.

A project team, which includes representatives from the City of Sault Ste. Marie and Economic Development Corporation, is building a case on the community’s competitive business advantages. If Noront selects the Sault as the most feasible site economically, a comprehensive, multi-year environmental assessment and consultation process will take place. Only if the development has public support and passes environmental regulations will construction begin on the plant.
